Book of the week: Men At Arms- Terry Pratchett

Genre: Comedy/Crime/Fantasy

Trigger Warnings: Mild Violence

Men At Arms is the 15th Discworld novel by Terry Pratchett. It centres on head of the Night Watch, Sam Vimes and his co-workers- a dwarf named Cuddy, a troll names Detritus, Carrot Ironfounderson who is a human raised as a dwarf, an unsavory corporal by the name of Nobby Nobbs, and a woman Angua Von Uberwald- amongst others.

Like with every Pratchett book it’s hard to explain exactly what it’s about. Vimes is getting married, a ‘gonne’ is stolen, and an assassin tries to bring a king back to rule Ankh-Morpork. It is full of the usual wit, imagination of all of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books. The rich array of characters means there’s at least a handful of people you’ll grow unnecessarily attached to (let’s face it, one of them will probably be Captain Carrot).

“The river Anhk is probably the only river in the Universe on which investigators can chalk the outline of the corpse.”
