Carrickmacross Arts Festival 2015

Carrickmacross Arts Festival was established in 2014 with the aim of showcasing the best original creative talents from the Monaghan, Cavan, Louth and Meath areas. Only in it’s second year, with appearances by acts such as Elephant, O Emperor and HamsandwicH (along with some big names in comedy) this event really has become the biggest little festival thus far!

Running from August 20th to 23rd, the long weekend opens with Thursday’s Comedy Night featuring Joe Rooney, Patrick McDonnell and local funny man Michael Downey. The Friday has an open aired screening of “Stand By Me“, along with some locally featured short films, with the live music carrying through Saturday and Sunday. Make sure to check out the Facebook page or website to catch the full line-up.

What really makes this big-little festival really special though is the collaborative and community driven nature of their local artists. Throughout the weekend, there are artist demonstrations running alongside workshops, exhibitions, installations and even a pop-up theatre piece! The site alone features pieces brought together by collaborators, making the whole place appear as a wonderland of recycled objects and nature coming together. Just wait until you see the book arch and handmade tee-pees!

Make sure to stop by over the weekend; full day tickets are €20 or a 4 day weekend ticket is only €37.50 – on sale from here or through local businesses. Stay tuned for more coverage throughout the weekend!
