Oscars 2016: Best Picture – “Spotlight”

Really the best film I’ve seen in 2016 so far, Spotlight scooped a well deserved Best Picture at this year’s 88th Oscars ceremony.

Starring Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Mark Ruffalo and Stanley Tucci, and directed by Tom McCarthy (writer of Disney Pixar’s Up) Spotlight makes a great watch out of a somewhat horrendous subject matter.

Based on the Boston Globe’s journalistic investigation into the Catholic priest abuse cases, these true events were the catalyst that unveiled the church-wide scandal worldwide.

Fast-paced and concise with some great character portrayals, this simple production is what great film really should be – well written, subtly directed with a great group of actors. No fuss, no grandeur, just a story that needs to be told and is told well.

Well deserving of Best Picture.
